Highway Traffic Signal Inventory for Northeastern Illinois

The Highway Traffic Signal Inventory is a geodatabase containing information about highway traffic signals in the seven-county CMAP region. The inventory, based on intersections rather than individual signal heads or intersection approaches, contains information about the location and technical features present at signalized intersections.

A number of fields are included in the dataset. Some of the fields may not be currently maintained in the jurisdiction agency’s database system. Thus, early versions of the geodatabase contain contain a large number of null or default values for many fields. Null values indicate only that the data is unavailable. It is expected that data completeness will improve over time.

The original (2018) release of the database contained only City of Chicago, IDOT, and county signals, and was collected in Q1 of 2017. This January 2021 (version 1.0.1) update contains all of the original records as well as data for over thirty suburban communities in the CMAP region that was collected in 2018.
